Meet Ryan: A Passion for Building and Renovating

The Early years

Ryan’s love for renovations began early and has been a lifelong passion. As a young boy, he could often be found helping his dad around the house, fixing, building, and learning the value of craftsmanship. By the age of ten, Ryan was already creating wooden crafts and gifts, progressing to more ambitious projects like wood turnings and shelving units, which he sold at local fairs and flea markets.

The Beginning

At just 16, Ryan’s skills caught the attention of a local contractor, who offered him a job solely based on his work—no interview required. Within a week, Ryan was working in a cabinet shop for custom homes, and within six months, he was designing, building, and installing cabinets independently. This opportunity marked the beginning of his journey into home renovations and new home construction.

Into The Trades

Over the next six years, Ryan honed his skills by working with local experts across a variety of fields, from custom home builds and cabinet shops to siding, roofing, and heavy steel and concrete construction. This broad experience gave him a deep understanding of both residential renovations and large-scale projects, preparing him for any challenge in the building industry.

School

In 1996, Ryan embarked on an apprenticeship in cabinetmaking. However, upon the recommendation of his instructor, he switched to carpentry—a decision that set him on a path to mastery. By 2001, Ryan earned his Red Seal certificate in Carpentry and began working with some of Prince Edward Island’s most skilled and respected contractors. He tackled high-end custom homes, intricate cement-forming jobs, and agricultural builds for multi-million-dollar dairy farms. These projects expanded his expertise and solidified his reputation for delivering exceptional work.

The Leap

In 2005, with PEI’s building industry slowed by the recession, Ryan headed west to Alberta, where the booming construction scene welcomed him with three job offers in his first week. Starting as a lead hand framer on multi- and single-family developments, Ryan eventually moved to Calgary in 2006. There, he launched his own company, Red Isle Construction and Consulting, which later became Red Isle Home Renovations in 2022 to reflect a fresh focus.
