Meet Ryan | Owner-Operated Renovations in Calgary

The Early years of home renovations

Ryan’s passion for building started long before Red Isle Home Renovations. Growing up, he spent countless hours working alongside his dad—fixing, improving, and building around the house. During that time, he learned the value of doing things properly the first time.

By the age of ten, Ryan was already building wooden crafts and handmade gifts. That early interest quickly grew into larger projects. These new projects included wood turnings, shelving units, and custom pieces. He sold them at local fairs and flea markets.

Those early years built more than woodworking skills—they built the foundation for a career centered on craftsmanship, pride, and attention to detail.

Today, with nearly three decades of hands-on construction experience and a Red Seal Carpentry background, Ryan brings the same mindset to every project. In each job, he believes quality comes from being involved, understanding the details, and taking ownership of the work from start to finish.

For Ryan, renovations are not just about updating a space—they are about building something that lasts. In addition, they are about earning trust through workmanship.

At just 16 years old, Ryan’s craftsmanship had already started to stand out. A local contractor noticed the quality of his work and offered him a position without even needing an interview. That was a moment that confirmed he was on the right path.

At just 16 years old, Ryan’s craftsmanship had already started to stand out. A local contractor noticed the quality of his work and offered him a position without even needing an interview—a moment that confirmed he was on the right path.Within a week, Ryan was working on cabinet installations for custom homes, gaining real hands-on experience at an age when most were still deciding what they wanted to do.

That opportunity became the starting point of a career built on hard work, craftsmanship, and learning directly in the field.

From cabinetry and finish work to full home construction and renovations, Ryan continued expanding his skills year after year. What started with custom home cabinet installations eventually grew into nearly three decades of experience. This experience spans residential construction, renovations, finish carpentry, custom cabinetry, structural work, and project coordination.

Those early experiences shaped the values Ryan still carries today—take pride in the work, stay involved, pay attention to the details, and never stop learning.

Into The Trades

Over the next six years, Ryan continued building his experience by working alongside skilled tradespeople and local experts across multiple areas of construction.

During this time, he gained hands-on experience in custom home construction, cabinet shops, siding, roofing, and heavy steel and concrete projects. Rather than focusing on only one trade, Ryan immersed himself in every opportunity to learn how different parts of a project came together.

This broad experience gave him more than technical skills—it gave him an understanding of the entire building process.

From precision finish work and cabinetry to structural systems and large-scale construction methods, Ryan developed a well-rounded foundation. In fact, this is a foundation that many in the industry never experience.

These years helped shape the approach he still follows today: understand the details, respect every stage of construction, and never stop learning.

That experience would eventually grow into nearly three decades of hands-on knowledge spanning custom homes, renovations, cabinetry, finish carpentry, framing, project coordination, and solving the complex challenges that come with building and renovating homes properly.

School

In 1996, Ryan embarked on an apprenticeship in cabinetmaking. However, upon the recommendation of his instructor, he switched to carpentry—a decision that set him on a path to mastery. By 2001, Ryan earned his Red Seal certificate in Carpentry and began working with some of Prince Edward Island’s most skilled and respected contractors. He tackled high-end custom homes along with various home renovations, such as intricate cement-forming jobs, and agricultural builds for multi-million-dollar dairy farms. These projects expanded his expertise and solidified his reputation for delivering exceptional work.

The Leap West

The move proved to be the right one.

Within his first week in Alberta, Ryan received three job offers as the province’s construction industry was expanding rapidly. He began working as a lead hand framer on both single-family and multi-family developments. In the process, he built experience on larger projects while continuing to strengthen his leadership skills in the field.

In 2006, Ryan moved to Calgary and took another major step forward by launching his own company, Red Isle Construction and Consulting.

Built around hands-on experience, craftsmanship, and owner involvement, the company reflected the values Ryan had developed throughout his career—quality work, accountability, and attention to detail.

As the business evolved and renovations became a larger focus, the company transitioned in 2022 to Red Isle Home Renovations. This new name represented a renewed direction while staying true to the same foundation it was built on.

Today, that same hands-on approach continues to guide every project, bringing decades of experience into kitchens, bathrooms, basements, custom carpentry, and complete home renovations throughout Calgary and the surrounding area.

Building Trust Today — And Looking Toward Tomorrow

Today, Ryan is recognized as a trusted name in renovation and construction, built on nearly three decades of hands-on experience and a reputation earned through hard work, craftsmanship, and doing things the right way.

As the owner behind Red Isle Home Renovations, Ryan has spent years helping homeowners transform their spaces through kitchens, bathrooms, basements, finish carpentry, custom cabinetry, and complete home renovations throughout Calgary and the surrounding area.

His reputation was not built through sales or volume—it was built on site, tool in hand, solving problems, coordinating trades, and paying attention to the details many people never see.

Ryan takes tremendous pride in that reputation because every project reflects his name, his experience, and the standards he has carried since the beginning of his career.

But the journey does not stop with renovations.

Looking ahead, Ryan’s vision is to expand into custom home building through East To West Luxury Homes (ETW Homes)—bringing the same owner-operated approach, craftsmanship, and hands-on involvement into high-end custom homes and estate projects.

The goal is simple: create homes built with purpose, quality, and attention to detail from the ground up.

Ryan believes luxury is not just found in finishes or square footage. Instead, it starts with what is behind the walls—the framing, planning, craftsmanship, coordination, and the thousands of details that create a truly exceptional home.

Through ETW Homes, Ryan aims to combine decades of renovation experience with custom home construction. His goal is to deliver homes that are thoughtfully designed, carefully built, and personally managed from concept to completion.

Whether you are planning a renovation today through Red Isle Home Renovations or envisioning a future custom home with ETW Homes, Ryan brings the same commitment to every project:

Hands-on leadership.
Owner involvement.
Craftsmanship first.
Built with integrity.

Because great projects are not simply constructed—they are built through experience, trust, and a passion for creating something lasting.
